Kris Fowles goes to the Springwood Diner to meet with her boyfriend, Dean Russell, who falls asleep at the table and meets a man covered in burn scars, wearing a red and green sweater, a fedora and a clawed glove on his hand. Death stalks the dreams of several young adults to claim its revenge on the killing of Freddy Kruger. Chased and chastised by this finger-bladed demon, it is the awakening of old memories and the denials of a past of retribution that spurns this hellish vision of a dreamlike state and turns death into a nightmare reality.

So generic, so lazy, and so forgettable they may as well have "we're not even trying" plastered across the bottom of the screen.May 14, 2010
It's the Bay touch you feel in the way actors register as body count, characters go undeveloped, and sensation trumps feeling. A nightmare, indeed.May 06, 2010
This is the worst yet from Michael Bay's horror production company Platinum Dunes, which also brought you rubbish re-makes of Halloween and Friday the 13th.September 07, 2011
I did jump a few times, and I liked Haley's dour malevolence, but overall, the new Nightmare on Elm Street is a by-the-numbers bad dream.May 05, 2010
Jackie Earle Haley's Krueger is a blast, but the child-molester twist is more depressingly clinical than dream-logic harrowing.January 18, 2014
I still like the characters from the first film, and these kids were cardboard shadows of them.February 15, 2013
This Elm Street reeks of a rushed cash-grab, as even the most reliable of clichéd shocks fail to register on the fright-o-meter.March 08, 2014
The real nightmare is the tragic lack of creativity in this new look of one of the genre's greatest characters.October 05, 2014
It replaces the fascinating context of Freddie Krueger's existence with a seemingly endless exercise in violence and unrelenting pain.December 25, 2012
This flimsy remake is a nightmare and unworthy of your time.May 06, 2011
Freddy's back -- and he's slicker and more sinister than ever.April 30, 2010
The result of the new Nightmare is, at best, a kind of stand-off between predictability and competent execution.
